Happy Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day, I thought today should be all about nature. I was planning on going out today to take some photos to post, but it was raining slightly. So, I just had to dig through some photos that I already have.

1 (2)

Some pretty little yellow flowers, that I have no idea what they’re called.

2

Simple, yet lovely wild olive flowers.

4

Little creatures, hard at work. I can’t quite tell what kind of insect they were carting away.

5

A pretty purple-pink flower. These beauties grow abundantly in my area.

6

It’s incredible that these little lovelies are cactus flower, but now that I think of it, all the cactus flowers that I’ve ever seen are extremely beautiful. That just goes to show you that there is beauty even among the thorns.

10

I love it when the sky looks this way. Partially cloudy is my prefered weather.

12

“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows. It’s what the sunflowers do.” – Helen Keller

13

A honey bee gathering pollen. There is just something about honey bees that I really enjoy.

14

A wee little bird. I don’t know what kind it is.

15

If you look closely you can see a mockingbird in there. I love the green in this specific area!

17

The same mockingbird, just a better view of it. Being that the mockingbird is my State Bird, I have a certain love for them.

18

And last, but certainly not least, one of the beautiful sunsets I have witnessed!

It’s fascinating how many different creatures one could see if one only took the time to look.

I often think about what it would be like if I lived in a city, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I wouldn’t be able to deal with it.

I need to live in a place that has trees, fields of grass, flowers, birds, even insects! With fresh air, minus the occasional smell of a skunk, but even that lets me know that I’m living near wildlife. Somewhere where I can look up and have a clear view of the sky.

I feel that I am truly blessed to live in the midst of nature.

So if you live somewhere surrounded by nature, go out and take it all in. And if you don’t live near nature, visit your local botanical garden or even a park. Just go out and enjoy it!

Happy Earth Day!!

Passover Recipes

So we are about in the middle of Passover week, and I get a sugar craving! Well, this year I didn’t buy any Matzo Cake Meal. So something made with egg whites it would have to be!

I was going to make a Strawberry-Meringue Tort, but then I found this recipe for Chocolate Chip Meringues in my copy of 1,000 Jewish Recipes.

DSCN4965 (3)

They are actually quite good, despite their unappealing appearance. They are very sweet, so one is enough to satisfy any sugar cravings, but I usually eat two cause that’s how I roll! haha These should last me till the end of Passover, but I just might still make that Strawberry-Meringue Torte. We shall see….

This year, like last year, I’m making my own unleavened bread. Matzo has never really been my thing, and making my own is lots cheaper!

DSCN4974 (2)

Unleavened Bread

Approx. Prep & Baking Time 20 minutes

3/4 c. flour

1/2 c. wheat flour

1 tsp. Kosher salt

2 tbsp. olive oil

1/2 c. water

Pre-heat oven to 500*.

In a medium-sized bowl combine flours and salt, stir. Heat water to around 110*. Combine oil with water. Add to flour mixture. Stir. Knead dough until it forms into a ball. Divide dough in half. Let dough rest for a few minutes. Roll dough into a 6 inch disk or a 8 by 5 inch oval, which you prefer. Place on a lightly floured baking sheet. Do this with both dough halves. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes. Serve warm. Enjoy!

So these are the recipes I’ve made for Passover this year.

I hope all those who are celebrating Passover are having a Joyous and Blessed week!

Peace and Blessings……

Thistle

IMG_20150331_122411
This one was simple, I think if the pattern were to be made larger, it would make a nice dishcloth.

So today was the last day of this stitch-a-day thingy! YAY! I had a lot of fun crocheting all these new stitches, but I’m also glad it’s over!

Now I can continue crocheting those blankets for The Worlds Biggest Stocking! I’ve only completed one, and I’m currently working on two. The stocking is still only at 10%, so they still have quite a bit to go, to complete it!

So back to crocheting I go!

Happy Crocheting!!

NatCroMo Lion Brand Stitch a Day: Week Three

Third week of Lion Brand’s stitch-a-day for National Crochet Month.

Wednesday, March 18

Reversible Mesh SAD 17 This stitch was like as easy as it gets! I finished crocheting it in 15 minutes, complete with weaving in the ends!! And it’s not a bad-looking stitch either, it would actually make a very nice warm weather scarf!

Thursday, March 19

Twinkle, Twinkle SAD 18 This may be made in double crochet stitches, but the switching back and forth color pattern gives it a fabulous look!

Friday, March 20

Rendez-Vous SAD 19 Although I can’t figure out why it is named ‘Rendez-Vous’ it has a nice look to it, which would probably be quite suitable for a top.

Saturday, March 21

All In A Row SAD 20 This one is made in single and double crochet stitches, just All In A Row…. I can’t think of an actual project I would ever use this on, but it was fun to make.

Sunday, March 22

Shell Stitch SAD 21 Lion Brand posted three variations of the ‘Shell’ stitch on their Facebook page. I had already done one of them, and I was planning on doing the other two, but I ended up doing only one cause I got lazy! It happens…….often. Haha!

Monday, March 23

Two-Tone Double Crochet Star SAD 22 This is a nice looking pattern, which if one would just continue the pattern, it would make a great baby blanket. Alternating colors would probably make it look even better!

Tuesday, March 24

Wildflower SAD 23 I really like this one! An Afghan out of blocks like this one would be perfect!

Well, that’s week three of this stitch-a-day thing, just a few more days to go!! Yay!

Oh, just to let you all know, my back is doing much better! I still can’t move around as much as I’d like, but the pain has decreased immensely! Thank you all very much for your concerns!

Peace and Blessings……

Quick Update

Hi everyone!! Just wanted to let you all know that I won’t be posting this weeks stitch-a-day post today. Yesterday, I injured my back or something, I’m still not sure what happened, anyway, I’m finding typing very difficult. I can still crochet because I can do that with my arms closer to my body, but having my arms even slightly extended is very painful. I don’t know when I will be able to do the post, but hopefully soon, because that would mean that my back is doing better.

See y’all soon!

Peace and Blessings……

NatCroMo Lion Brand Stitch a Day: Week Two

Week two of Lion Brands stitch-a-day for National Crochet Month..

Wednesday, March 11

Petal Mesh Stitch

SAD 10

This was an interesting stitch to make, and I can’t decide whether I like it or not, sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t……. Very conflicting… Haha!

Thursday, March 12

St George’s Variation

SAD 11

I really like this one! I wonder if it will look nice as a scarf? Hmmm……

Friday, March 13

Lacy Stripes

SAD 12

This one! Yes, me like! Me thinks it will makes great everything! haha!

Saturday, March 14

“Love Knot”

SAD 13

This was not the pattern Lion Brand posted on Saturday, they posted “Little Gemsbut for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out the pattern! I really didn’t make sense to me! Usually if I don’t understand crochet pattern instructions I can figure it out just by looking at the photo (if it has one), but not with this one! I literally spent several hours staring at the pattern photo trying to see how it was done, because I just couldn’t not be able to do it, but to no avail…. I’ve been wanting to learn the “Love Knot” stitch, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. I’m not at all pleased with the results, but hey, I tried. I don’t Caron Simply Soft yarn is the best yarn for this stitch.

Sunday, March 15

Granny Style Quad Rosette Motif

SAD 14

Once again this is not the pattern Lion Brand posted on Sunday, but it is a Lion Brand pattern, so points to me!! Haha! But seriously though, I just didn’t like the look of the pattern they posted! Since I’d never ever use it I decide on the “Rosette Motif” – which I totally love, and some day I must make a blanket using that pattern! Here is the pattern that Lion Brand posted on Sunday, just incase anyone was interested in knowing. Circles and Bobbles

Monday, March 16

Primrose Square

SAD 15

This one was slightly difficult, but not much…… or was it difficult because my brain often fails to work properly? I just don’t know…. Well, anyway, it was fun, and I like it!!

Tuesday, March 17

Scales

SAD 16

Now this is a very different looking piece! And once again I’m conflicted about whether or not I like it….. But, it was fun to make, once I realized that part of the instructions were incorrect. On Row 3 it said “*1sc into each of the next 2 sts, 1sc round the 3ch of the scale, rep from * 5 more times” and what it should have said was “1sc into each of the next 2 sts, 1sc round the 3ch of the scale, *1sc into each of the next 3 sts, 1sc round the 3ch of the scale, rep from * 4 more times.” I seriously made Row 4 about 3 times before I learned how to properly do it. Don’t you just hate in when patterns don’t make any sense?

That sums up Week two of this stitch-a-day thing, and I can honestly say I can’t wait for it to be over! Not that I’m not enjoying learning the stitches, because I am, but it just taking up to much of my crochet time. I’d much rather be working on actually projects…

If you to would like to use up part of your day, you can find Lion Brand on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Happy Crocheting!!

Peace and Blessings……

NatCroMo Lion Brand Stitch a Day: Week One

As promised here are the crochet stitches I learned this past week, for Lion Brand’s stitch-a-day for National Crochet Month!

Monday, March 2

The “Chevron” Stitch SAD 1

I don’t much like this one, but that could be because I spend so much time on it, I just couldn’t wrap my head around the pattern instructions. But, it would be a great pattern for a scarf, which I may try……once I stop loathing it!

Tuesday, March 3

The “Scallop” Stitch SAD 2

I love this pattern! I’ve used it before, for a scarf for my mum.

Wednesday, March 4

The “Playblocks” Stitch SAD 3

This one was supposed to be in multiple colors, but I was just plain lazy and didn’t feel like switching! But, I do like this stitch!

Thursday, March 5

The “Diagonal Stripes” Stitch SAD 4

This is a nice stitch, I think I may use it for a scarf……..one day.

Friday, March 6

The “Gilded Fans” Stitch SAD 5

I love the lacy look of this one, and it was fairly easy to make.

Saturday, March 7

The “Crochet Cable” Stitch SAD 6

This one was a fun and easy stitch…….well, easy once I figured out everything I was doing wrong with the pattern.

Sunday, March 8

The “Lace Ripple” Stitch SAD 7 This is a nice looking stitch, totally not me, but it’s nice.

Monday, March 9

The “Checkerboard” Stitch SAD 8

Now this was an easy stitch to make! I may use it in the future, I don’t know for what, but yeah……

Tuesday, March 10

The “Scallop Stripes” Stitch SAD 9

This is a very pretty stitch, I think it would make a nice edging for a blanket.

Even if I never use these stitches for anything, I’m learning how to follow pattern instructions without my mind wandering off, I’m very good at that ya know! haha

It’s a bit late, but if you’d like to join me in doing the stitch-a-day, you can find Lion Brand on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. They are posting the daily stitch on all of those.

I may post something later this week, and if not, I’ll see y’all next week.

Peace and Blessings……
